We support and conduct exploration, recording, and interpretation of both ancient and contemporary cultures and their languages, traditions, and histories and encourage advocacy for indigenous peoples, marginalized groups, and endangered languages. Our project at Tell Arbid, Syria:

The Joint Expedition for the Oriental Institute of the University of Vienna and Archaeos at Tell Arbid, Syria is an historical investigation, in Northern Mesopotamia, that discovered, unearthed and documented the remains of a mid third-millennium BCE housing settlement.

Our project at the UNESCO World Heritage site of Vijayanagara, India

Vijayanagara (Hampi) was the capital city of the last great Hindu empire, of Southern India during the 14th–16th centuries. Since December of 2000, Archaeos has been working in cooperation with the Karnataka Department of Archaeology and Museums to conduct a surface archaeology project, three-dimensionally mapping the remains of two areas of the ancient city: a part of the Royal Centre, known as the North Ridge and a separate area known as the Noblemen's' Quarter

Cultural Heritage & Law

We support the development and execution of strategies, legislation, treaties, and agreements for the preservation of both intangible and tangible heritage. We are particularly concerned about the effects of illicit traffic, armed conflict, and globalization upon cultural heritage sites and artifacts. We maintain an extensive library of links to legal instruments and other standards, as well as to other information about these issues.

The Iraq War & Archaeology (IW&A) project specifically documents the impact of the Iraq War on the archaeological heritage of Iraq. It provides a knowledgeable, exhaustive, and accessible one-stop source of reference for scholars, journalists, policy makers as well as the general public. The news and information has been archived in semimonthly archives going back to April 2003.
