Introduction
Why map at Hampi?
Vijayanagara is introduced as the medieval Hindu capital of
Southern India. Architectural Historian George Michell encapsulates
the art historical importance of the site, which was invaded
and sacked by the armies of the Deccan Sultan to the North
in 1565. Anthropologist John Fritz and Archaeologist H.T.
Talwar describe the vast scope of the ruin-city, and the goals
of the current excavation work.
