Mapping I
Over sweeping pans of the area's remarkable architectural
remains nestled in the stunning landscape, the extent of the
surface mapping in Archaeos' 2001-2002 season is described
with footage focusing on the field work of the surveying team.
Archaeologists David Gimbel and John Fritz explain the surveying
process and outline the way the data is collected, noting
that this digital information can be translated into a variety
of forms and end-uses.
George Michell observes that this is the first time such surveying
has been used on an archaeological site in India; CAD-based
surface mapping can not only help scholars discover more about
a site but it can more easily aid in increasing awareness
about the world's cultural sites by bringing architectural
information to a wider public through digital media.
