Mapping II
How are the surface remains of buildings and other architectural
elements at Vijayanagara recorded?
David Gimbel describes in detail the technical aspects of
Archaeos' surveying work: shooting points using a theodolite,
a prism, and a digital data collector with custom-written
software. We see how decisions are made to create the most
accurate 2-D and 3-D models possible using a variety of geometric
considerations and a pre-determined set of architectural feature
codes.
